Fashion Trends: Shoulder Pads & DIY

Shoulder-Pads+Runway+fashionablyfly.blogspot.com

One thing about fashion is that it always repeats itself and rather you like it or not, shoulder-pads are back in style--Be it pointy, padded, angular, or bare. Not since the ’80s have we seen people flaunt them so much, even on the runway. And now some of the best dressed celebs are making this trend into a very sleek and edgy style. So if you're like me and you are inspired by famous fashionistas but don't have a stylist or closet full of designer clothes, you can make your own shoulder pads and embellish a few pieces of your wardrobe.

What You Need: raglan shoulder pads, various ribbons, fringes, strings, scissors, thread, needle. (You can find most of these items at Walmart and all under $5 each!)

1. Decide how you want your shoulder pads to look. There’s probably a million ways to make them and a good way to start, is to simply pin down a lot of different materials on the shoulder pad. That way you’ll get an idea of how voluminous you want them to turn out.

2. You should start by carefully stitching everything together when you’ve decided how you want them to turn out. You should do this by hand, assuming that a sewing machine will probably make the pads a little flat. Start by covering the pads with the ribbon in order to get a little texture on the surface.

3. From there add two types of fringes. You can always add more fringes or strings under the pad if you want a greater effect.

4. Finally add  the cable string around the edges to cover up the stitches. And you're done. (s)
